Gigi Bradford is the inaugural recipient of the Poets House Elizabeth Kray Award for Service to Literature. She has directed The Academy of American Poets, The Folger Shakespeare Library Poetry Program, the NEA Literature Program, the NEA Heritage and Preservation Division, Millennium Projects at the NEA for Chairman Jane Alexander, and the Center for Arts and Culture, the first think tank for the arts.
Bradford received an MFA in Poetry from the Iowa Writers Workshop, has published poems and essays, and edited books. She served on the Board of the Emily Dickinson Museum for 12 years and was the Founding Chair of the Folger Shakespeare Library Poetry Board. Since 2006, Bradford has been teaching poets' work at Politics & Prose bookstore, and her most recent publication, co-edited with Louisa Newlin, is Shakespeare's Sisters: Women Writers Bridge Five Centuries, a letterpress chapbook from the Folger Shakespeare Library to complement the Shakespeare’s Sisters exhibition and annual Seminar on this topic at the Library.
