Annie Finch is the author of six books of poetry, including Spells: New and Selected Poems, The Poetry Witch Little Book of Spells, Calendars and Eve (both finalists for the National Poetry Series), and the verse play Among the Goddesses: An Epic Libretto in Seven Dreams (Sarasvati Award, 2012). Her poetry has appeared in Poetry, The Paris Review, The New York Times, The Penguin Book of Twentieth-Century American Poetry, and onstage at Carnegie Hall. Finch's books on poetics and poetry-writing textbook A Poet's Craft engage, like her poetry, with meter and poetic structure. She has also edited a dozen books, including Villanelles (Penguin) and Choice Words: Writers on Abortion (Haymarket), and translated the complete poems of French poet Louise Labe for the University of Chicago Press. Annie Finch holds a B.A. from Yale and a Ph.D from Stanford, served for a decade as Director of the Stonecoast MFA Program in Creative Writing, and has lectured on poetry at Berkeley, Toronto, Harvard, and Oxford. She served as Editor of the Poets on Poetry Series for the University of Michigan Press and founded Wom-Po, the international women's poetry listserv. In 2010 she was awarded the Robert Fitzgerald Award for her lifetime contribution to the art and craft of Versification. Finch has collaborated on poetic ritual theater productions with artists in theater, dance, and music and has performed as Poetry Witch on three continents. She is the Founder of PoetryWitchCommunity.com, where she offers classes in poetry, meter, and her own system of self-transformation, The Magic of Rhythmically Writing.
