A poet and critic, Mark McMorris is the author of The Book of Landings, a two-volume work of poetry published by Wesleyan University Press in 2016. His other books include EntrepZ?t (Coffee House, 2010); The CafZ? at Light (Roof Books, 2004), a text of lyric dialogue and prose; The Blaze of the Poui (U of Georgia P, 2003), a finalist for the Lenore Marshall Prize; and The Black Reeds (1997), winner of the Contemporary Poetry Series prize from the University of Georgia Press.

His poetry is widely published and anthologized in volumes such as What I say: Innovative Poetry by Black Writers in the Americas (U Alabama P, 2015); Postmodern American Poetry: A Norton Anthology (2013); American Hybrid: A New Norton Anthology of Poetry (2009); and Black Nature: Four Centuries of African American Nature Poetry (Georgia, 2009). He has been Roberta C. Holloway Visiting Professor of Poetry at the University of California, Berkeley; writer in residence at the Seamus Heaney Center for Poetry at Queen's University Belfast and the Literary Arts Program at Brown; the recipient of a Lannan Foundation residency fellowship, in Marfa, Texas; and an occasional instructor in the Summer Writing Program at Naropa. He holds degrees from Brown and Columbia.

He founded and previously directed the Lannan Center for Poetics and Social Practice at Georgetown University (2006-2009), where he is currently a professor of poetry the English Department.
