Joan K. Selby was born in San Rafael, California, but moved east shortly thereafter. Poetry and nature were my saviors. Reading and writing were my loves. I have honed my perceptions teaching and writing in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, and now in Maryland. Teachers, workshops and writing groups, including the one I founded in Hagerstown, have sustained me. I have developed the first interdisciplinary writing therapy program and Frostburg State University. Now, in addition to writing, I enjoy volunteering, tutoring, travelling, gardening, and, of course, reading.
