Norfolk native DL Pearlman (aka Pravda) earned his BA in English from Maryland and MFA in Creative Writing from George Mason University. Returning to Norfolk to teach at Norfolk State, Pearlman found poetic, musical and photographic inspiration in the region's ample natural offerings and their disintegration. He tries not to trespass. While his photos have been displayed in galleries like Gallery 410 and the Suffolk Art Gallery, as well as in journals like Streetlight Magazine, Pearlman's poems have appeared in more than 40 journals, for instance recently in Bookends Review, Kakalak, Poetry South, and South 85. Pearlman appreciates winning the 2019 Dogfish Head Poetry Prize for Normal They Napalm the Cottonfields as well as several prizes from the Poetry Society of Virginia including the Edgar Allen Poe contest. Pearlman has performed poetry and music in hundreds of venues, such as Ferrum College, The Norva, Thomas Nelson Community College, The Muse Writers Center, and the Oceanfront Writers Festival.
